The ICFP organizers stand united to express our denunciation of racism, to support the Black members of our community, and to reaffirm that Black Lives Matter. Together, we mourn the innocent Black lives violently taken recently, without cause, including but not limited to George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery, as well as other victims of racist violence in the United States and around the world.
We recognize that the killings have led to grief and justified anger, especially for Black members of our community. We understand that it is difficult to carry on with business as usual, made worse by the isolation we are currently experiencing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we respect time away from professional commitments taken by individuals to deal with these events and the mental load these events impose.
It is the goal of our conference to bring together all members of the functional programming community. We reaffirm that discrimination and hate have no place at our events or on our online platforms. We work to keep racist speech and action away from our sponsored events, but if anything happens, please know that SIGPLAN CARES members and senior leadership are available to help. We are committed to fostering a community that allows all of our members to thrive and breathe, and we look forward to joining together at ICFP this year.
Let’s remain hopeful and act, together.
